Hi Tony,

Robert DeveauI’ve infiltrated my kid’s playroom for my business.  They don’t seem to mind though, since they get to bug me often.

My website is www.articleprofitmastery.com

By the way, my product pays 50% on clickbank.  So if you put it in with your link, all the better.

If you want a review copy, and chose to mail it to your list, all the better still.

Laurie Brenner

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

Hi Tony,

Laurie Brenner picA bit about me.  I’m an author, publisher and an internet marketer.  Just actually began hitting IM harder since June of 09, but been on the internet since February of 2007.

I’m currently doing article marketing (mostly the bum method) (gee as a writer, what a SURPRISE).  I’m a 56 year old grandmother.  My husband and I live in the house I designed and we built ourselves on the Western Slope of the Sierra Nevada just below Lake Tahoe in California.  My two grown daughters lives two hours away (I have four grandchildren) and his grown son lives about 45 minutes away – he’s getting ready to go into the Navy in December.  My husband and I live in our three-story dream house ourselves.  It’s big for when the family’s all here.

We live on ten acres sliced right from heaven where wild things abound.  We have two dogs, four cats and a pair of mated red tail hawks that soar this little valley of ours.

I’ve written two books, one a self-help book, Little Book of Becoming-The Primer to Living Inside Out and Changing Planes, a spiritual fiction, rated 5 stars by Midwest Book Reviews, “a top pick for the spiritual fiction reader,” both available on Amazon.

Laurie Brenner officeI’ve got 17 websites, but not all are active yet.
I work in the evenings and weekends still having a full time job.  But I’m slowly getting there.

I finally got smart and decided to gear up my article marketing this past June and have seen a real increase in cash flow.  Still trying to find those rich niches though that I resonate with…

Love the internet, love the connectability, love the people I’m meeting!

Arvin Hill

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

Tony,

arvin hill in response to your invitation I am sending a pic of my workspace and one of me, if the camera doesn’t break!!

I did not tidy up the work area, it just so happened to be one of the few times when I could actually see the desk top. I am making use of what I have at the moment, my old (4 years) laptop the keys no longer work on so I need to use the external keyboard, and that makes it hard to get to the mouse control, so I have an external mouse too. I spend a lot of time waiting for large downloads and dealing with my slow connection, you can hardly see in the picture but I have a pair of Chinese hand exerciser balls to keep me occupied while  I wait.

arvin hill workspaceSo far I have launched two web-sites and one blogging account through this set up since I left my full-time-dead-end-factory-job in July. I have been fortunate in getting pointed, almost by accident to some very productive and creative people that don’t mind sharing their ideas, so right now I am an avid follower and learning a bunch of stuff, I know I will eventually break thru and join the ranks of the hugely successful!

As I write this the Sun is streaming in through the window, no one is on my back as I enjoy it, and my time is truly my own for the first time since forever, so for now that is my success.

Thanks for the opportunities Tony,
Arvin Hill

Jacque LaMantia

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

Jacque and John on Key West VacationHi Tony,

I started working from home about 1 ½ years ago, initially doing monthly promotional mailings for real estate agents.  As the real estate market began to slow down, then ultimately crashed, I decided to see what I could do with internet marketing.  My husband was forced into early retirement a few years ago and was home all day, so I had multiple reasons for wanting to work from home and be in charge of my own destiny.

I began in earnest in January 2009.  I have gone through the usual newbie problem of jumping and leaping from program to program, thus making little money, but learning a LOT!

I have only made $67.61…BUT…I know it can be done, I love it, and I will not quit until I successfully start bringing in a minimum of $10,000 per month.  I have now decided to devote my time exclusively to internet marketing so nothing can get in my way.

Jacque's OfficeI have attached a photo of my work space (our 3rd bedroom has become my office), and a photo of us on vacation this past April in Key West, Florida.  I actually won a week for four people on a private island off the Keys on a local radio station….an incredible dream-come-true!!  I want to make enough money so that we can increase our standard of living from just getting by comfortably to living wherever we want and going on luxurious trips all around the world.  My work space looks like a real mess, but I know where everything is!!

Alexander Umanets

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

Hi Tony,
Alexander UmanetsI’m sending my office pictures. As I told on your blog, there is nothing special just my office and me in it.
I made this office by myself from the scratch (it was old ugly bedroom in a 50-year old house).
My story is pretty short:
We are living in mid size bungalow in Toronto, Canada. Me, my wife and 13 year old son.
3 older daughters, one with daughter (6y) and one with son (1y) are living everone on thier own already. :o )

Originally we are from Russia (I am from Novokuznetsk, Siberia and my wife Olga is from Yaroslavl city, it is 300 km north from Moscow).
My “original” profession is an electronic engineer. I’m also a handyman and like to do renovation as much as Internet marketing.
Also, real estate investing (flipping or buying and holding/renting) is my onther big “hobby”.
 Alexander Umanets office
I like your IM style and approach to it, but personally I am a “home” type guy despite I was travelling to many countries including Japan, Israel and UK as well.
I started my IM business one year ago and still consider myself as a “experienced newbie” compare to your level. :o )
My biggest accomplishments in IM is in domain name’s niche at this point. My best sales are – one domain I have sold for 1,500 EUR and another one for 3,500 EUR.
Just names without website. I do sell premium domains which I spot using my own technic. I do not promote my domains exstensivly yet, just park them on sedo.com.
Looking forward to see all the pictures from fellow marketers.

Best regards,
Alexander Umanets

Tony,
Thomas LeonardMany thanks for allowing us on the outside looking in and share with you where we come from.
Like I said in my post, as a California boy (60+) I find it a great place to be from.
You and Yaro are 2 people on opposite sides of the world that have inspired me to take on
more that just 1 or 2 blogs, I am attempting to start a social niche about our local wineries.
From what I have seen it might or might not work, the judges are still out.

Thomas Leonard WorkspaceNow my desk / office area is 1/2 of a 10′ x 12′ office / bedroom, no beds as my other
half occupies the other half as an office for her Avon business.

The closet is full of shelves with office supplies and Avon stock.

2 – 4 dwarer & 1 – 2 dwarer file cabinets,

1 separate table for the wireless printer, 3 computers with 2 extra monitors.

Oh, 2 messy desks, all mine.

Yelana McManaman

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

YelanaHi Tony,

I had to laugh reading your “Pictures Reveal the Ugly Truth” post. Yes, my little one wakes up at 6am (if we’re lucky, if not it’s more like 5:30am). So the description of your morning was right on :)

Yelanas officeI work from my family room. Actually, not even from a room itself, but from a converted closet. It also serves as my scrapbooking desk, bill-paying station and storage for my little one’s favorite DVDs. But don’t be fooled by the attached picture. The only reason it looks all neat and organized is because in reality I work from an adjacent couch most of the time. After my little one is in bed, I power up my laptop, sit back, put my feet up (great sturdy coffee table is a must in my household) and work-work-work.

Thank you for the blog and particularly for this post!

Sincerely,
Yelena McManaman

Hi Tony

Thanks for the opportunity to show off and get some free traffic!

stuartMy story in a nutshell;

I discovered eBay in 2005, sold the family junk at first like most new
eBayers! then spent months trying to find the perfect eBay product to
turn my hobby into a sustainable business.

I stumbled upon the vintage print niche and after hundreds of hours
research I discovered I could source a continuous supply of old prints for $1 or $2 each and sell for $10 $20 $30 and more!

Having tested and refined my business model I realized that this was information that anybody could use to change their lives for the
better too!  so I wrote ‘Prints Make Profits’ a step by step guide to rescuing vintage prints from old books and selling them for incredible
profits on eBay.

Fast forward to today, internet marketing has enabled me to move from inner city Liverpool to the East coast of Ireland which is a much
safer and healthier environment to raise my children.

My work space consists of the kitchen table and a desk with a laptop
in my sitting room!

So now when I’m looking for inspiration to help me write my subscriber
newsletter I don’t have to get out of my seat!

Tony, I’d appreciate links to;

Mike Fletcher

by Tony Shepherd on October 9, 2009

Hi Tony,

This is a picture of me taken by my nine year son Samuel last summer at our local park Letcliffe Park in Barnoldswick Lancashire.

Mike F

I started Internet Marketing completely by chance about three years ago now, well actually two years seriously. Sorry Tony I don’t have any picks of me at three in the morning.

Back to my story. So, just by chance one day a received this mail shot through the post it was by a guy that some of you may or may not know. His name was Andrew Reynolds and it was through his course that gave me the bug for internet Marketing.

At the time I was just coming to end of a career in the building trade as a bricky, I had torn all the ligaments form my right arm which just happened to be my trowel harm, so I was off work for about 18 Months.

When I went back on site, I laid my first brick and I just KNEW right then that my days were ended as a bricklayer. So while I was off work with my arm in a sling i got into Internet Marketing and yes did the usual newbie things like spending thousands of $ $ on all the usual stuff. Going to seminars and just about everything else you can think of.

At the moment of writing this letter I have not made any money online, however I know that by doing more of what I’m doing currently in my Internet Marketing it will only be a matter of time.

mike f work area This is a picture of my home office where I spend most of my time, it’s situated in one corner of our bedroom and believe it or not my Wife Sarah puts up with it. So when I do start to make some money I will treat here to a great holiday somewhere hot.

As of writing this letter I work hard at a job that I hate and now I know that there is something better out there it makes it all that harder to go to .

All I know is that I will make money online; maybe not tomorrow maybe not the next day, but I will get there that’s a promise.

PS. Thanks for letting us share our stories Tony, I have enjoyed doing this and I hope you will publish it. Oh just before I go my url to my site is www.mindsetforsuccess.co.uk

 cheers

Mike.

I was reading a post the other day on the Worrier Forum (I know how it’s spelt)  :-)

And the guy who was posting obviously had alot of anger to get off his chest. The whole theme of the post was ‘it’s not bloody fair’.

He was talking about how internet marketing isn’t fair.

He wasn’t happy about the fact that some people find it easier to make money than others, especially when they have access to virtual assisitants, ghostwriters and other such outsourcers. He didn’t seem to realise that not many of us are born with an Indian SEO expert welded to our arses, nor do they arrive in Christmas crackers (although I was once at a party where a naked woman arrived in a rolled up carpet) ….

But the main thrust of his rant was that the whole IM scene simply isn’t a level playing field.

And he’s 100% right, it’s not.

But neither is life, and it would be very worrying if it was. Some people have natural or manmade advantages over others. I’m lucky enough to live in a rich country where various factors make it easy for me to hire outsourcers to grow my business and make a healthy income.

So to level the playing field should I be removed to a shanty town in Brazil or should most of my income be given to people in my own country who are not as well off?

I don’t think so. Likewise I shouldn’t be promoted to a Duke and given half of Buckinghamshire as a birthday present. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice, but it wouldn’t be right.

I’m not going into politics but the long and the short of it is that life just isn’t fair – you can’t simply break an athletes foot so that someone like me can run the 200 metres just as fast – and nor can you make everything in internet marketing fair.

Some people are better writers, some are naturally gifted techies and some are just moaning planks.

You have to do the best with what you have.

The excuses are starting to run out though, because as services such as Aweber, Paypal, Wordpress and Google analytics become available for low fees to everyone, the playing field IS being un-naturally levelled.

Which means that more and more people are competing at the same level.

But some people will ALWAYS succeed while others won’t. It’s a natural human state of affairs.

Inequality is what we do best. It’s what we’ve always done best (from slavery right through to horrendous treatments of indiginous populations), and it’s what we will ALWAYS do best.

But if the actual TOOLS of internet marketing – of online businesses – are become freely available to all, how come some people will always rise to the top of the heap?

Most people have some sort of product to promote, whether their own or as an affiliate. Most people who are serious about their business have some sort of sales funnel and understand at least the basics of upsells, list building and traffic driving. So why (again) do some people make better use of these tools?

Well time is maybe one factor – if you’re working full time, with a family and only a few hours a week to dedicate to your IM business you might struggle. Then again many people have taken on those odds and won.

My guess is that the people who are doing well today on this flatter than flat playing field are those who realise that there are some things that can NEVER be equal.

I’m talking about ideas.

The biggest fattest Aweber account in the world is never going to generate an idea that makes people smile, or becomes viral, or is just plain old interesting. Ideas are what seperate us from each other. Thoughts, dreams, quirks and oddities are what makes people interesting, and more importantly from a business point of view, are what makes people different.

And a lot of the time, different sells.

But still too many of the emails I receive and the blog posts and forum posts I read are from people who are scared of their own uniqueness. IM is full of people trying to be each other, yet look around at the major success stories and you see individuals (and in some cases absolute nutters)  :-)

So one of the first things I try to do with my coaching students is to get them to accept and love their weird and wonderful ideas.

Actually CREATING these ideas is usually very easy for most people – we all have built in Dalis and Sartres and Carnegies but we’re a bit scared of letting other people see them.

So the next time you have an idea that makes you smile, DO IT.  In internet marketing it’s really bloody hard to bankrupt yourself unless your wife is also your sister, or you call your cousin ‘dad’. Hosting is cheap, domain names are ridiculously cheap and best of all ideas are free.

Will you wake up in the middle of the night thinking ‘Oh crap – where did that idea come from??’

Yes you will. But it just might make you rich too….
